WORK 01 - TRANSFORMING THE SUMMER SEASON IN LIVIGNO

Find me on:

The classic ski resorts generate their greatest share of revenue and lodging nights during the winter season. Very few skiing destinations have managed to develop their summer season into more than just a marginalized business field.

Mountain biking can help balance winter and summer business in ski resorts. Of course mountain biking tourism is still much smaller than the skiing industry, but some pioneer mountain biking destinations are presenting incredible numbers from their summer season. One great example is the Italian destination Livigno, our first client.

Our first ever project for Livigno started in 2003. The goal was to have a first offer ready for the World Championships that were held in 2005.

In 2003, Livigno generated 90% of overnight stays in winter. In 2014, the summer has grown to 35% of nights during the year. That shift from 10% to 35% is significantly due to the additional visits from mountain bike riders. As Livigno generates around 1.2 million overnight stays during one year, you can do the math how many nights mountain bikers spend in Livigno during one summer. Impressed? We are.

Today, people still ask us one question: „What do you do exactly?“. „We develop mountain biking destinations.“ is our answer, but many cannot imagine what that might involve. That's why we decided to launch this blog series called WORK, in which we'll give you some insights from our work and the results that have emerged from it.

You can also get the insights on all 15 cases by downloading this Ebook we've put together for you. Click here.
